Léo Azambuja - The Garden Island The Garden Island | Posted: Saturday, April 23, 2011 11:30 pm Nawiliwili Tavern is one of the longest-standing bars on Kaua‘i. It’s been open for more than 30 years and has passed through quite a few owners and different names. Jessica Geffert’s father took over the Tavern when she was still a teenager. But that doesn’t make it any easier on her. She still has to earn her money behind the bar. And she does so with grace and style. One of Jessica’s favorite drinks is the “Apple Pie Martini.” It tastes just like the all-American dessert that originated in medieval Europe. Jessica is a true Kaua‘i product. Born and raised here, she graduated from Kapa‘a High School and took some business classes at Kaua‘i Community College and on the Mainland. Two classes short of a bachelor’s degree, she came home to help dad with the business. She jokes that she’s one of the three people she knows on Kaua‘i who doesn’t have children. But that might change soon; she said she has been talking with her other half about having a kid. The Nawiliwili Tavern is near Kalapaki Beach. It’s open from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily. Inside tip: Every Wednesday night the Tavern has $2 bottles of Corona. |
